Information Gathering

Once we begin working together, the first step will be to meet and discuss more specifics about your business, including:

  • Your product or service
  • Business goals
  • Target audiences
  • Market positioning
  • Voice and tone
  • Ideas for messaging
  • Current content
  • And more

This meeting can be a traditional, one-on-one conversation or an interactive workshop with your team.

Step 2

Research

Then, I’ll research more about your industry, competitors, and audience on my own to learn as much as possible before I start writing.

Step 3

Messaging Development

If you don’t have existing brand guidelines in place, I’ll combine the insights gathered during Step One with the research done in Step Two to create a Brand Messaging Guide. This guide summarizes the foundations of your brand, audience, voice and tone, and key messages so we have a shared starting point for all future copywriting work. This may seem like an extra step in the process, but ensuring we’re on the same page from the beginning minimizes the time and budget needed for re-work later on.

Step 4

Writing and Editing

Once that foundation is in place, we move into writing. I have found that working in iterations helps avoid surprises and address course corrections quickly. That’s why I usually share a few pages or pieces at a time to get your feedback before moving on to the next step. Finally, I’ll make revisions based on your feedback and deliver the final product.
